The DeepPumas team works on augmenting traditional pharmacological modeling frameworks with seamlessly embedded machine learning algorithms. This enables structural enforcement of prior scientific knowledge through statistical and dynamical modeling while enabling data-driven augmentation. We work with neural networks, universal differential equations, symbolic identification, Bayesian/Convolutional/Graph neural networks and more, all of which are deeply embedded in statistical and dynamical models.

Our work is groundbreaking and unprecedented, taking us across the horizontal of basic scientific research to applications in real-world healthcare issues. Throughout the process, we are engaging with and building credibility in the scientific community by publishing papers, presenting (and winning awards) at prestigious international conferences. Our goal is to democratize the resulting methodology through well-crafted software and learning material for widespread use.

We are now seeking someone with a broad knowledge and an intuition for machine learning to join our stellar team.

Objectives of the Role

  • Develop and apply machine learning augmented methodology for pharmacological applications.
  • Extract signals from patient data (images, genomics, clinical tests, wearable device data, etc.) to better predict outcomes and guide treatment.
  • Develop general theory and methodology to embed machine learning into modeling structures with structurally encoded prior knowledge.
  • Work with us on various collaborative projects to solve real-world problems and make an immediate impact.


  • Lead machine learning core

    • Provide input by identifying new opportunities and assessing feasibility.
    • Be well-informed of relevant literature/software.
  • Develop general methodology

    • Work with the DeepPumas team to merge data-driven processes with knowledge-based conventional modeling.
    • Research, design, implement, and document methodology for utilizing specific sources of data to improve the explanatory and predictive power of models.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • PhD in related field or equivalent experience that satisfies the requirement and responsibilities stated.
  • Broad machine learning overview and a deep understanding of core machine learning concepts.
  • Effective communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in software development. Knowledge of Julia preferred, but not requisite.
  • Experience with ML software such as Pytorch, TensorFlow and/or Flux.jl.
  • Familiarity with statistical and/or dynamical modeling.
  • Familiarity with scientific machine learning concepts.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology-based modeling a plus.
  • Other relevant experience
